Real Madrid made it a record-extending 15th European title as they survived an early onslaught from Borussia Dortmund to win their 15th Champions League title.

Real Madrid showed why they are the most successful team in the Champions League once again when they survived an onslaught from Borussia Dortmund to win their 15th title.

Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior delivered the killer blows very late in the final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday as Los Blancos won 2-0.

Carvajal headed in Toni Kroos’ corner in the 74th minute as the Spanish champions upped the ante in the second half before Vinicius curled in a left-footed stunner after being played in by Jude Bellingham.

It was classic Real Madrid in the Champions League as they came away with victory from a game in which they were second best just like in the quarter-final against Manchester City and in the semis against Bayern Munich.

Dortmund were the brighter side in the first half, managing eight attempts, two on target, while the Spanish champions had no shot at their goal.

Karim Adeyemi, Jadon Sancho and Marcel Sabitzer were guilty of missing clear-cut chances for Dortmund with the former wasting three good opportunities and the Bundesliga side would pay dearly in the second half.

Madrid used their experience to good effect, laying siege at Dortmund’s goal which yielded numerous set pieces. Kroos drew a good save from the Dortmund goalkeeper from his well-taken freekick before he delivered the corner kick that gave way to the first goal.

The retiring German midfielder played a crucial role in bringing down the Bundesliga side with his corners and freekicks troubling Dortmund.

Soon after, Madrid would get openings in the Dortmund defence and they used them to good effect as a good move saw Bellingham play in Vinicius for the second.

Dortmund thought they had pulled one back through Niclas Fullkru but the German forward was adjudged to have been offside when he headed home.

Defeat sees Dortmund lose a second Champions League final at Wembley, having fallen to bitter rivals Bayern Munich in 2013, while Madrid are now the undisputed European champions after completing a double in 2023-24.
