What happened
The case first hit the news in September 2023, when Asencio, along with three other Real Madrid former Real Madrid academy stars, Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez and Andre Garcia, were arrested over child pornography allegations.
The complaint leading to the arrest was filed by the mother of a 16-year-old (at the time) girl said to have had consensual sex with Asencio. Unbeknownst to her, however, was that the act was recorded and shared via WhatsApp among Asencio and his former teammates, according to ESPN.

Recent development
Per the Sun, Asencio faces up to five years in jail should he be found guilty of recording and distributing a sexual act involving a minor without consent.
Hence, the 21-year-old’s lawyer filed a motion to appeal a ruling to end further investigation into the videos. The court rejected said appeal, and the defender will now stand trial at a court in the Canary Islands.
Meanwhile, Ruiz, Rodriguez and Garcia have left Real Madrid. Asencio on the other hand, broke into the first team this season with the club's injury crisis. He has been a standout performer in defence for Los Blancos and was again, immense in Real Madrid's UCL triumph over Manchester City.
