The 20-year-old midfielder shocked Real Madrid fans after his admission came to light
Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has stirred controversy among Galaticos fans after it was revealed that he dreamed of playing for their arch-rivals, Barcelona, during his childhood.
The revelation came from Bellingham's primary school leavers yearbook, where the then-youngster expressed his desire to play for the Catalan giants and represent England.
Bellingham unveiled as Barcelona fan
The Real Madrid star’s school leavers yearbook from his days at the Priory School in Edgbaston, Birmingham revealed that Bellingham had actually longed for a chance to play for Barcelona in his youth as well as the England national team.
Under a column in the school’s yearbook tagged “When I grow up I want to be” a young Bellingham filled in: “When I grow up I want to be a professional footballer for Barcelona and England” as seen in pictures shared on TikTok by one of his former classmates.
Although the Birmingham native eventually made one of his dreams come true by becoming an England international, the other part of his aspirations went quite differently.
Bellingham’s rise to prominence with Real Madrid
Despite his childhood dream, Bellingham's career path led him to become one of the standout players in world football, currently shining in the white of Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid.
The England international began his professional journey at Birmingham City before moving to Borussia Dortmund and his impressive performances in Germany eventually earned him a high-profile transfer to Real Madrid.
In his first season with the Spanish giants, Bellingham helped Real Madrid beat his former favourite team Barcelona to the LaLiga title on the way to a prestigious League and UEFA Champions League double.
Birmingham focused on Real Madrid and England
While Bellingham's past dreams have caused a stir, his focus remains on his current club and national team. Having already made 29 appearances for England, he is poised to be a key player for the Three Lions at Euro 2024.
He will be hoping to bring the same type of success he enjoyed in his first season with Real Madrid to the Three Lions, who are aiming for a first-ever Euros title in Germany.
