Real Madrid veteran Dani Carvajal advises Barcelona and Spain to protect Lamine Yamal.

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has warned Barcelona and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to manage Lamine Yamal adequately and protect him from adverse conditions that could impede his development.

Despite playing for a rival at club level, Yamal and Carvajal are teammates for Spain, and they both marshal the right flank for La Roja at opposite ends of the pitch. The veteran spoke glowingly of the 16-year-old’s talents but emphasised that he must be protected.

What Carvajal said

In an interview with Spanish publication AS, Carvajal praised Yamal’s talents, citing his own career and how he was still in Real Madrid's youth team at the teenager's age.

However, he added that the RFEF and his club must ensure to guide his steps, as he believes it is easy for a footballer to lose their way.

“When I was 17, I was winning the Champions Cup in the youth team, Carvajal started. "  (Lamine) is a fairly prepared boy, but he must be looked after a lot in any case, both in the RFEF and I imagine in his club. A boy so young must carefully measure the paths he must make so that he does not get tired of football too soon.”

“I’m telling you, keeping your feet on the ground is not easy. Having all the spotlights directed at you when you’re so young is not easy. You have to keep him under control; focus on what he has to do and I’m sure he will do very well.”

Meanwhile, Spain play Georgia in the Round of 16 of the European Championships tomorrow. Carvajal and Yamal are expected to start for La Roja.
