Like Barcelona, Real Madrid are also looking to sell off some their prized assets to offset the cost of their stadium renovation.
Real Madrid is giving fans a rare opportunity to own a piece of football history.
The Spanish giants are set to host an exclusive auction of 24 player lockers used by legendary stars including Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, and Zinedine Zidane.
With the starting bids set at £10,000 each, these iconic lockers are part of an auction organised in partnership with the renowned auction house Sotheby’s.
This historic event coincides with the unveiling of a special exhibition in London, where the lockers and other Real Madrid memorabilia will be displayed for fans and collectors.
The auction, which will open for bidding on November 12th and end on the 26th, is expected to draw interest from collectors worldwide.
Each locker up for grabs has been used by some of Real Madrid’s most celebrated players, spanning two decades of the club’s illustrious history.
A representative from Sotheby’s expressed excitement about the collaboration, saying as per GOAL:
“Sotheby's is privileged to have been appointed to stage this unique auction of treasures from Real Madrid's storied and celebrated history.
"The sale of the locker room, in use by the first team from 2002 to 2022 along with other artefacts from the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is an integral part of Real Madrid's mission to share its heritage, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for football fans and collectors from around the world to cherish a piece of its legacy.
"We look forward to welcoming collectors and fans from all over the world to our exhibition, which will be free and open to all, in London this November.”
Real Madrid to also auction Stadium Memorabilia
In addition to the iconic player lockers, Real Madrid’s collection includes other remarkable items from the Santiago Bernabeu.
A giant, three-meter-wide mosaic of the club’s crest, with a starting price of £12,000, and several metal doors that once adorned the stadium will also be auctioned.
The London exhibit will give the public a chance to see these exclusive artefacts up close, with Sotheby’s inviting fans to their gallery for a free viewing throughout November.
Part of the proceeds will go to the Real Madrid Foundation, supporting the club’s philanthropic work as well as helping to offset costs from the Bernabeu’s recent £500 million renovation.
