The Spanish giants could make a surprise move for the Manchester United star if they fail to land Liverpool's Trent

Desperate for a right back in the absence of Dani Carvajal, who has been sidelined for most of the season with a serious knee injury, Real Madrid have come up with multiple targets for the January transfer window.

While Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold remains their top target, the Spanish giants are considering Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot as a backup option should their pursuit of the Englishman fall short.

Real Madrid making moves for Alexander-Arnold

Los Blancos view Alexander-Arnold as the perfect option for their problematic right-back position. He can come in and make an immediate impact while also owning the position for many years to come.

With Dani Carvajal now 32 and Lucas Vazquez also nearing the twilight of his career, the Champions League holders see the Liverpool star as an ideal replacement.

The England international’s contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the current season, and Real Madrid are reportedly keen to secure him on a free transfer ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Reports also suggest they attempted to sign him in January for a fee of £20 million, but their approach was quickly turned down by Liverpool.

Los Blancos find Trent alternative

Should their bid for Alexander-Arnold fail, Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot as a possible alternative.

The Portuguese defender, who has made 186 appearances for the Red Devils, has had a mixed season at Old Trafford, but despite his challenges, Real Madrid believe he could provide solid cover and competition in their right-back position.

Dalot’s attacking output, which includes six goals and 12 assists across his Manchester United career, pales in comparison to Alexander-Arnold’s contributions.

However, with Manchester United’s struggles this season and the allure of joining one of the world’s most prestigious clubs, Dalot could be tempted to make the move to Spain.
