Lookman makes Champions League history with 35-second goal as 'first Nigerian' despite Atalanta heartbreak
Ademola Lookman returned to action for Atalanta to make Champions League history despite the club's shock exit against Club Brugge.
The news comes after Gasperini publicly criticised Lookman following Atalanta's Champions League exit against Club Brugge.
Gasperini's remarks, where he labelled Lookman "one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen," have drawn criticism and sparked speculation about Lookman's future at the club.
)
In response to Gasperini's comments, Lookman expressed his disappointment and feeling of disrespect:
“Being singled out in the manner I have been not only hurts but feels deeply disrespectful, not least because of the immense hard work and commitment I have always put in each and every day to help bring success to this club and the incredible fans of Bergamo.”
In response, Fabrizio posted an update on Lookman’s future, stating that the Nigerian, who has been asked to prepare to leave, will push ahead with the plan.
)
"Understand plan remains for [Ademola] Lookman to LEAVE Atalanta this summer,” he posted. “Atalanta will try to clarify the situation with Gasperini in the next 24h after strong quotes… but it won’t change future plans as his transfer’s expected to take place."
He further added that a transfer was already planned as a possibility last summer with several clubs keen and that the transfer will now happen at the end of the current season.

This public disagreement between Lookman and Gasperini is expected to further fuel speculation about a potential summer exit for the Nigerian forward in the coming weeks.
