Report: Another Chelsea player to return from loan after Chalobah recall

Enzo Maresca could reintegrate another previously unwanted player at Cobham this month following Chalobah’s recent return.

On-loan Everton forward Armando Broja is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering ankle ligament damage in the FA Cup tie against Peterborough United on January 9.

What happened?

The Albanian international was taken off on a stretcher after a challenge from Peterborough defender Emmanuel Fernandez and is expected to be out for 10-12 weeks.

Manager David Moyes confirmed the extent of the injury and suggested that Broja may return to parent club Chelsea.

"We think he's going to be out for somewhere between 10-12 weeks," Moyes said. "It's his ankle ligaments. It'll probably mean there's a possibility that he will have to go back to Chelsea."

Broja joined the Toffees on loan in the summer but his time at Goodison Park has been hampered by injuries, limiting him to five Premier League appearances (two starts).

He made his Everton debut in December after recovering from an Achilles injury and had started to establish himself in the first team.

The 23-year-old has a history of injury problems, having suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in December 2022 that kept him out for nine months.

Although Broja may have to wait nearly three months to be sure of his level of involvement under Enzo Maresca, Trevoh Chalobah has no such issues, with the Blues activating their recall option for the defender on Wednesday due to injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile and Maresca not trusting Axel Disasi.

What next for Chelsea?

The Blues, winless in five Premier League matches, return to top-flight action next week Monday when they take on Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
