The Blaugrana are reportedly prepared to go to battle with Real Madrid for Liverpool's vice-captain.

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to rival Real Madrid for the signing of Liverpool’s vice-captain Trent Alexander Arnold, who is rumoured to be contemplating an exit from his boyhood club.

Trent's possible exit

The 25-year-old came up through the ranks at Anfield and broke into the first team as a teenager. He is currently the assistant captain, in line to take over from Virgil Van Dijk as skipper when the 32-year-old Dutchman eventually leaves the club.

However, Liverpool risk losing the full-back in the summer of 2025, as he is in the final year of his contract. His future remains unresolved and with the January transfer window in a little over two months, clubs are lying on the prowl, prepared to hand him a pre-contract agreement to enable them to snap him up for free at the end of the season.

Real Madrid are one of those clubs, and as Pulse Sports reported, they are confident they can land the England international

Barcelona enter the race

The Blaugrana were in the market for a right-back in the summer but were handicapped by their finances, hence, were unable to sign any player in the position.

They have been linked with a surprise move for Chelsea's Reece James; however, a recent report today linked them with another English star, Trent.

The report stated that the lack of a transfer fee strengthens Barcelona's position, and they hope to make player sales to enable them to afford what the deal will entail.
