Why De Zerbi blames Italian media for continued comparison with Mourinho and Allegri
The Brighton & Hove Albion boss thinks the perceived notion that his approach is counter-cultural to Italian football means he is not seen as a winner like Jose Mourinho and Massimiliano Allegri.
Why is Allegri under pressure?
The Juventus boss has effectively been under scrutiny since he returned for a second spell in charge of the club in 2017 but stayed in the job. That pressure was reduced this season as the Old Lady were competing atop Serie A with Inter Milan despite Allegri’s insistence that ending in the top-four positions was the team’s target in 2023-24.
Recent weeks have seen Juventus’ form fall apart, with only one league win in eight matches, seeing the Bianconeri slide to third, having been in the first two positions for much of the first half of the season.
Juventus are interested in ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte
According to multiple Italian sources, Antonio Conte, the man Allegri replaced in 2014, is one of the names being mentioned by the Juventus hierarchy.
Conte, who won three Serie A titles in his three seasons at the club, has been out of work since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in March 2023, and he turned down the chance to join Napoli earlier this season. Reports suggest that a return to Juventus interests the ex-Chelsea boss, who favours the move as he will be closer to his family.
Are there other managers being linked to Juventus?
Thiago Motta is one of the names discussed, with the ex-Inter and PSG midfielder doing amazingly well with Bologna this season to guide them into a potential Champions League position.
The Rossoblu occupy fourth place, three clear of in-form Roma in fifth and five behind third-placed Juventus.
What comes next for Juventus?
Allegri is not expected to leave before the season concludes, meaning the incumbent Juventus boss should be in situ when the Old Lady return to Serie A action against Lazio on March 30 at Stadio Olimpico.
The Old Lady face the same opponent in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg on April 2 as they seek an advantage heading into the reverse fixture on April 23.
