The Hammers have endured a disappointing first half of the season, and Lopetegui's future has been in doubt for several weeks.

Despite overseeing a summer of significant investment, the Spaniard has struggled to deliver consistent results, with West Ham currently sitting 14th in the Premier League table, eight points above the relegation zone.

Their recent 4-1 defeat to Manchester City appears to have been the final straw for the club's hierarchy, who are considering Potter, as per The Athletic.

The writing had been on the wall for Lopetegui for some time, with the report suggesting that his position was under scrutiny following a string of poor results in December.

Despite occasional victories, including wins against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton, heavy defeats to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have sealed his fate.

West Ham are now in advanced talks with former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, who has been out of work since April 2023.

Potter previously enjoyed a successful spell at Brighton & Hove Albion, and has been linked with several managerial vacancies since leaving Chelsea.

What next for West Ham?

West Ham travel to Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Friday, keen to avoid elimination in the domestic cup.

The Hammers return to Premier League action against Fulham on January 14.
