The Red Devils are reportedly set to put Ten Hag out of his misery to appoint the former Barcelona coach
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing former Barcelona midfielder and manager Xavi Hernandez as a potential replacement for struggling Erik ten Hag, as the Dutch manager’s position grows increasingly precarious due to poor results.
Xavi at the top of Manchester United’s wishlist
Currently without a team after leaving FC Barcelona, Xavi has emerged as the top target for Manchester United and the club’s leadership is said to be exploring alternatives for the managerial role as Ten Hag faces mounting pressure.
Xavi’s ability to nurture young talent and impressive track record with the Blaurgana make him an attractive option for the Red Devils, who are eager to return to their former glory.
The club is reportedly prepared to go the extra mile to lure him to Old Trafford, with one potential move being the signing of Barcelona’s star, Fermin Lopez, whom Xavi holds in high regard, once remarking that "with Fermin, I would go to war.”
Xavi’s managerial track record
Despite his limited European managerial experience, Xavi was still able to leave a mark with Barcelona during his first full season with the Catalan giants.
After leaving Barcelona in 2015 and going into management with Qatari side Al Saad, Xavi returned to Catalonia in 2021, and won the 2022/23 LaLiga title as well as the 2023 Super Copa de Espana with the Blaugrana.
He also oversaw the development and integration of a number of youngsters into the Barcelona first team including current regular Lamine Yamal.
Although reports are unconfirmed currently, Manchester United fans will be hoping that if the club does trade in ten Hag for Xavi, the former Barcelona captain and coach will be able to bring similar success to Old Trafford.
