The Super Eagles may face Russia in a friendly match next year despite FIFA's ban on the country.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Russian national team in a first-of-its-kind friendly match scheduled for 2025.

This exciting matchup is being organised by FIFA match agent Jairo Pachon, with the specific date and venue yet to be confirmed. An announcement is expected once all the details are finalised.

Bartlomiej Banasiew, a Russian journalist, quoted Pachon expressing his enthusiasm for the fixture. He said: "The Russian national team will most likely play a friendly match against Nigeria in 2025. Jairo Pachon, the manager in charge of organising matches of the Nigerian Football Federation, had this to say.

"Our representatives are working with the RFU to organise a friendly match between the adult national teams of Russia and Nigeria in 2025. This match is absolutely possible.

"So what, does it look like Russia will face another strong team? In my opinion, this would be the third serious rival from 2022 (after Serbia and Cameroon). I think such a match will almost certainly be played," he said.

If the game happens, it will be the first time the Nigerian and Russian national teams will face off at the senior level.

Meanwhile, FIFA suspended Russian clubs and national teams from all international competitions on February 28, 2022, and expelled them from the 2022 World Cup due to the Russian/Ukraine war.

FIFA claimed that Football stands united in solidarity with all those affected in Ukraine.
