The Lions have struggled since Amorim joined Manchester United, leading to suggestions of another managerial change.
Sporting Lisbon are reportedly on the verge of dismissing head coach Joao Pereira, according to Portuguese newspaper Record.
Sporting’s poor run under Pereira
Pereira’s future has come under scrutiny despite only recently replacing Ruben Amorim, who departed for Manchester United in November.
Despite Amorim's endorsement of Pereira, who previously managed Sporting's B team, the transition has not been smooth.
Since taking charge, Pereira has overseen a disappointing run of results, with Sporting suffering four defeats in eight matches, including four losses on the trot.
These include two Primeira Liga defeats sandwiched between Champions League losses to Arsenal (5-1) and Club Brugge (2-1).
Despite a 3-2 Liga success over Boavista and a 2-1 extra-time domestic cup win against Santa Clara, a goalless league encounter at Gil Vicente on Sunday, 22 December, counted as another setback for the new Sporting boss.

The defending Liga champions have since lost top spot in the top flight, with Benfica defeating Estoril 3-0 on Monday, adding to the pressure on the Lions.
This has led to growing pressure and speculation surrounding Pereira’s future at the club, and a decision on the head coach’s fate is expected imminently, with a crucial Lisbon derby against Benfica looming after Christmas.
What next for Sporting?
Sporting welcome rivals Benfica to Estadio Jose Alvalade on 29 December, keen to reclaim first place with maximum points (both sides are separated by a point heading into the gameweek 16 clash).
