Jurgen Klopp reportedly planned to replace Liverpool star Mohamed Salah with Antony back in the summer of 2022.
Liverpool fans can count themselves lucky after it emerged that former boss Jurgen Klopp was keen on signing Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax in the summer of 2022.
Salah was entering the final year of his contract and speculation was rife, linking the winger with a lucrative move away from Anfield.
According to the Times, Klopp had identified Antony as the best possible replacement, with the Brazilian flying high for Ajax at the time.
However, the Liverpool board insisted that whatever funds a deal like that would require, was better spent negotiating a new deal for Salah.
The Egyptian then signed a three-year extension at £350,000 per week, a deal that expires next summer.
Antony eventually reunited with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in a transfer worth £90 million, and despite a promising start, it has turned out to be one of the worst transfers in history.
The 32-year-old will no doubt attract attention from all of Europe's top clubs but Liverpool fans continue to hold out hope that their star man extends his stay on Merseyside.
