Maresca said it was a mistake omit Tosin Adarabioyo from the squad.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has clarified the reasons for dropping Tosin Adarabioyo out of Chelsea's squad for their Europa Conference League clash.
Maresca admitted that it was a mistake to leave Tosin Adarabioyo out of the squad for the Europa Conference League match against Servette.
The error was revealed by Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, who confirmed that Adarabioyo had been added back to the squad for the return leg in Switzerland.
Adarabioyo is a recent signing from Fulham, joining Chelsea this summer from their London rivals.
Another notable absence from Chelsea's squad was Raheem Sterling, whose exclusion from the team to face Manchester City sparked speculation about his future at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca clarified that Sterling's omission was a technical decision and not indicative of any issues with his performance.
He continued, "I spoke with Raheem before the (Manchester) City game. I told him he is going to struggle to get minutes with us. Chilly, he is a lovely guy, but he is going to struggle in his position with us. If you find this brutal, it is up to you to decide.
"They (Sterling and Chilwell) are training apart. As I said, the situation is quite clear and there is not any update on the situation. They are Chelsea players. But it's not possible to give them all minutes. Those who want minutes, they are better off to leave," he said via Daily Mail.
Ben Chilwell was also left out of the Europa Conference League squad, fueling rumours of a potential move away from Chelsea.
