After reportedly falling out with Cristiano Ronaldo, Stefano Pioli's time at Al Nassr could be coming to an end

Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence at Al Nassr is once again under the spotlight, with reports suggesting growing tension between the Portuguese superstar and head coach Stefano Pioli.

The former AC Milan boss, who only took charge in September, could exit the club at the end of the 2024-25 season, with a break clause in his contract allowing him to pursue other opportunities.

Ronaldo versus Pioli storm brewing at Al Nassr

Pioli's €12 million-per-year contract may suggest long-term stability, but Al Nassr’s managerial history tells a different story.

The Saudi Pro League giants have been through multiple coaching changes in recent seasons, and Pioli could be next in line for an early departure, largely due to a reported fallout with Ronaldo.

The tension allegedly escalated after Pioli decided to substitute Ronaldo early during Al Nassr’s 3-1 victory over Al Kholood, a decision that reportedly did not sit well with the club’s captain.

Given Ronaldo’s strong influence at Al Nassr, any friction with the manager is bound to raise questions about the Italian’s long-term future.

While Al Nassr remain in contention for silverware, history suggests that coaches who fail to maintain a strong rapport with Ronaldo do not last long at the club.

What next for Pioli?

If Pioli does walk away from Al Nassr, the Serie A managerial carousel could soon welcome him back with open arms.

Roma have been linked with Pioli for months, and with Claudio Ranieri stepping into a directorial role this summer, a new manager will be required. The 59-year-old Italian remains an option, with Roma reportedly considering him for the 2025-26 season.

Additionally, Juventus have also been mentioned as a possible destination for the former AC Milan and Fiorentina boss.

The Bianconeri’s current head coach, Igor Tudor, is on an interim contract, and if he does not extend his stay, Pioli could emerge as a serious candidate for the job.
