An update of the golden boot standings after matchweek 30 of the FKF PL

After a weekend that was dominated by Mashemeji derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, matchweek 30 of the FKF Premier League produced a very significant surprise in the race for the award..

Not only did Gor Mahia lose to Leopards for the first time in seven years, Benson Omala also fired blanks for the 3rd game in a row, having missed a penalty during the match that would have put him on a par with the legendary Maurice Ochieng's record of 26 goals in a single league season.

Joseph Mwangi of Nzoia Sugar could not find the net although Nzoia Sugar beat  Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 and is still stuck on 15 goals.

Umaru Kasumba of Bandari FC finally became the fourth player to hit the 11 goal mark for the campaign, following a brace against Mathare United in midweek, but he could not repeat his heroics against City Stars as they drew 1-1 at the Ruaraka grounds

Pulse Sports Kenya brings you a recap of the top scorers charts so far,and what is at stake heading into the championship rounds of the season

Benson Omala, Gor Mahia- 25 goals

Benson Omala leads the goalscoring charts on 25 goals, just one short of equaling Maurice Ochieng’s record of 26 goals in the 1976 season. However, he was unable to add to his tally as Gor Mahia were unable to beat Wazito at the Muhoroni Stadium amidst fan unrest during matchweek 29 , before failing to convert his penalty as Gor Mahia lost to AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji derby this weekend.

Elvis Rupia, Kenya Police-21 goals

Elvis Rupia had fired blanks over the last two games. In their 0-0 draw against FC Talanta, he had chances created for him but could not capitalize on the, and was even more profligate against Sofapaka a few days later, as he could easily have scored a hat-trick to help keep tabs on Omala on another day. He made ammends in their win over Mathare United as he scored the only goal of the match to reduce  the deficit to just three goals on Omala, making it 21 for the season.

Joseph Mwangi, Nzoia Sugar- 15 goals

Joseph Mwangi’s form for Nzoia Sugar this season has generally epitomized their fairytale good run this season as Salim Babu’s men have mounted an unexpected title challenge.

He was not able to find the scoring charts against Leopards although they beat Kakamega Homeboyz 2-1, keeping the tabs on Tusker and Gor Mahia in the title race.

Umaru Kasumba,Bandari FC- 11 goals

Umaru Kasumba became the latest member of the ten-plus goals for the season tally as he has netted three goals in his last two appearances for a somewhat rejuvenated Bandari. He scored his first goal under new coach, Twahir Muhidin in the 7-2 drubbing of Vihiga Bullets, before inspiring his side to a brace four days later against Mathare United.
