Manchester United let Ruud Van Nistelrooy go after Ruben Amorim's decision to work with his own staff.

Manchester United have announced the parting of ways with assistant coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy and other members of the coaching staff that stayed behind after Erik ten Hag’s sack.

The club legend was a member of Ten Hag's coaching staff, and after the Dutch tactician was fired, he was handed the reins as interim coach.

He led the club through an unbeaten four games, three wins and a draw, and he got public support from fans and players in the squad, who voiced their desire for him to stay on as a staff. However, the club have now announced his exit.

Man United’s statement

“Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach.”

“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”

Ruud van Nistelrooy wanted his Manchester United stars to play with pride at Old Trafford.

Why Van Nistelrooy was let go

The former Real Madrid striker expressed his desire to stay on as a member of staff, but hours after Amorim landed in England to begin his appointment, the club released the aforementioned statement, announcing his exit.

According to Fabrizio Romano, who relayed a report from the Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, the decision was Amorim's, as he insisted on working with his own backroom staff.

It remains to be seen what path the 48-year-old will take next in his career, as he has previously held a permanent coaching job in a top European league (PSV) before curiously accepting to join Manchester United as an assistant.
