Olivier Nizeyimana took over FERWAFA on June 28th, 2021, succeeding Brig. Gen Jean-Damascène Sekamana, who also resigned from his post.
The president of the Federation Rwandaise of Football Association (FERWAFA) has fallen vacant following the resignation of Olivier Nizeyimana.
According to Rwandan media, Nizeyimana tendered his resignation on Wednesday, citing work overload due to his other personal responsibilities.
“I find that combining it [the Federation’s work] with other responsibilities would have a negative impact,” Nizeyimana’s letter to the football body reads, according to a report by The New Times.
"I am so thankful for your efforts in all that has been achieved as well as your kind support in the development of football in Rwanda,” the message added.
Amavubi’s poor performance
Nizeyimana leaves at a time when concerns are rising over the performance of Rwanda’s national team, the Amavubi, despite heavy government input.
The Amavubi sit third in Group L of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with three points, one below Mozambique and one above Benin.
They face Mozambique in June before travelling to Senegal in September.
