Eguavoen led the Super Eagles to a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic and a 0-0 draw against Rwanda.

Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has praised the performance of interim Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen in the recent 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Recall that Finidi George resigned from his position as the Super Eagles coach and Eguavoen stepped in to lead the team after German-born Bruno Labaddia declined the role.

In his two matches in charge, the Super Eagles secured a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic and a 0-0 draw against Rwanda.

Reflecting on Eguavoen's performance, Udeze noted the improvement in the team's performance under Eguavoen.

"There was improvement in both games the Super Eagles played, they were able to create scoring chances, and played as a team. We hope to see more improvement," Udeze said on Brila FM.

He expressed his approval, "For me, Eguavoen did a good job, one win and one draw, not a bad one. If the NFF decided to leave him I wouldn’t have any issue with that.

Eguavoen denies stepping down

Meanwhile, amidst reports of his resignation, Eguavoen has clarified that he remains in charge of the Super Eagles.

He denied being misquoted and emphasised his continued role as the NFF's Technical Director, "It’s quite unfortunate that people just trigger something incorrect. And the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories.

"I only talked about sitting down with the federation's hierarchy after these two games and we will see how to go about prosecuting the next games.

"But when I saw that story I was worried. Whatever people are reading out there isn’t correct. I’m still very much in charge. I’m the Technical Director of the NFF, saddled with the responsibility of taking the Super Eagles now," he said.

Eguavoen continues as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation while the NFF seeks a new coach for the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles will return to action next month with a doubleheader against Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
