How it happened
In a match famed for its flaring tempers, Liverpool and Everton were at each other's throats from the onset, with several stiff tackles flying at the start of the match.
It took only 18 minutes to see the first yellow card, as veteran Premier League star Ashley Young received the first booking of the game.
The former Aston Villa and Manchester United man was then sent off after a second yellow card before the end of the first half, leaving Everton with a mountain to climb with only 10 men in the Merseyside derby.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Everton defended doggedly and were 15 minutes away from securing a famous draw when they conceded a penalty.
Defender Michael Keane was the offender, bringing down Liverpool winger Luis Diaz in the penalty area, allowing Salah to slot home from the spot.
Liverpool did not rest on their oars after the first goal and doubled their lead in the seventh minute of extra time, as Salah was on hand to finish off a counterattack to make it 2-0 to the Reds.
