Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has gone past Steven Gerrard in the list of Liverpool's al time top scorers
Mohamed Salah has surpassed club legend Steven Gerrard to become Liverpool’s fifth-highest goalscorer of all time with his goal in the Reds’ 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
Salah scores landmark goal against Bournemouth
Salah scored from a penalty rebound just before half-time against Bournemouth to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead at the time and open his account for the 2023/24 season in his first game at Anfield this campaign.
The goal was significant for more than just being the game-winner, as it was the Egyptian’s 187th goal for Liverpool in all competitions and saw him move past Reds’ legend Gerrard to become the outright fifth-highest goalscorer in the club’s history.
The Egyptian’s 187 goals have come in only 306 games as he continues to cement his legacy as a Liverpool legend with breathtaking performances in his sixth year with the club.
Salah climbing up list of Liverpool legends
Salah’s exploits have seen him mentioned in similar standing to some of Liverpool’s all-time greats, but the Egyptian forward is still some way off the club’s all-time highest goalscorer, Ian Rush, who scored 346 goals in 660 games for the Reds.
After surpassing Gerrard on the list of goalscorers, Salah’s next target is Scottish icon Billy Liddell, who scored 228 goals in 534 games between 1938 and 1961 for Liverpool.
Salah has scored at least 30 goals in all competitions for Liverpool in the last three seasons and could improve his placement in the club’s all-time top scorer’s list if he keeps that pace over the next few seasons.
