The gaffer had special praise for the second-half entrant who netted a late winner against FC Talanta.

Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Salim Babu praised his patient striker Alfred Tanui for his role in their win over FC Talanta in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL)  match.

Tanui came off the bench to net a stunning header as the Sugar Millers dispatched Talanta at Sudi Stadium to keep his team's title ambitions alive.

"Tanui has the Midas touch and is always ready while at the bench. He is a good corrector and saves us like this when struggling.

He scored a good goal when he came in, which changed everything," Babu said in a post-match interview.

Since joining Nzoia from Posta Rangers mid-last season, Tanui has found his form, scoring two goals for the Sugar Millers' in the four matches after coming on as a second-half substitute.

"Our aim in the match against Talanta was to win. We know from our current position on the log standings that if we lose a step, the title will not reach our reach again," Tanui said.

"The game and even the striker I replaced was good too. I guess there is something the coach saw and brought in. My work is to score goals, and I am a good game reader, too," he added.

The win was vital for Nzoia Sugar, who remained third in the standings with 54 points from 28 matches played so far this season and five points adrift from table leaders Gor Mahia.

Nzoia now faces AFC Leopards on Sunday, May 7, as they look to win their maiden league title, which is also the ticket to represent the country in the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League.
