The Champions League playoffs have set the stage for an exciting showdown between two Nigerian talents, Ademola Lookman and Raphael Onyedika

Africa’s Player of the Year, Lookman, representing Atalanta, will face Onyedika's Club Brugge as both teams vie for a coveted spot in the round of 16.

Atalanta narrowly missed automatic qualification after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Barcelona, a match that Lookman had to watch from the sidelines due to a knee injury sustained in training.

Despite his absence, Atalanta showed resilience to avoid defeat and secure the playoff position by finishing ninth in the league phase. Lookman has had a stellar season, contributing four goals and one assist, making his injury a significant setback for the team.

Onyedika's Club Brugge also experienced a rollercoaster ride to the playoffs. They clinched their spot despite a tough loss to Manchester City, where Onyedika scored a stunning goal but ultimately could not prevent a 3-1 defeat.

This playoff matchup, aptly captioned 'See you again' by the Atalanta social media account, is particularly intriguing as both players are teammates in the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, with this fixture expected to get the attention of Nigerians.

The Champions League playoffs will feature other notable fixtures as well. Juventus will take on PSV, Monaco face Benfica, and Sporting CP will battle Borussia Dortmund.

Additionally, Celtic will host Bayern Munich, while Feyenoord square off against AC Milan. The standout clash of this round is Manchester City versus Real Madrid, both of whom missed out on the top eight in the league phase.
