Napoli and AC Milan lock horns in the top fixture of Serie A match week 28 which also serves as a prequel to the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash between both teams.
The international break is over and done with and Serie A action is back following a one-week hiatus in which the elite players of Calcioball were representing their respective countries.
Top-flight football returns in Italy this weekend with 10 fixtures spread across three days but one game in particular is the one to watch, Napoli v AC Milan.
Napoli v AC Milan headlines match week 28
The reigning champions of Serie A will pay a visit to the next probable champions and current runaway leaders of the 2022/23 season.
The Neapolitans are currently 20 points clear at the summit in their relentless pursuit of a first Scudetto since 1990.
This should normally be a tight game between two big Italian teams but the 23-point laguna between them makes Napoli clear favourites.
Milan lost the reverse fixture 2-1 at home despite Napoli playing without Osimhen who has been talismanic so far this season.
The Nigerian striker will be available for this one on Sunday though, now with 24 goals in 29 games across all competitions.
Milan went into the international break off the back of four winless games across all competitions and Stefano Pioli will be hoping the break would help his team reset and snap the bad run.
That would be difficult though as Napoli have the best home record in the league so far with just one loss and draw each in 13 games at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
Another interesting dynamic is the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash between both teams to clash over two legs in April which makes one wonder if both teams will use this Serie A fixture to feel each other out.
Serie A action returns on Saturday
Serie A action returns from the international break with Cremonese hosting Atalanta in the 2 pm kickoff who are led by Nigerian international Ademola Lookman.
Inter Milan and Fiorentina lock horns in the 5 pm kickoff at the Guiseppe Meazza after which Juventus host Hellas Verona in the late kickoff at 7:45 pm.
Serie A games to watch on Sunday
Sunday begins with an early kickoff between Bologna and Udinese by 11:30 am, followed by two afternoon kickoffs in Spezia v Salernitana and Monza v Lazio by 2 pm.
Roma welcomes Sampdoria to Stadio Olimpico in the evening after which the aforementioned big game between Napoli and AC Milan in the late kickoff at 7:45 pm.
Serie A action on Monday
14th-placed Empoli will host 15th-placed Lecce as both teams look to push further away from the relegation places on Monday evening after which Sassuolo hosts Torino on Monday night to close out the matchday.
