FOOTBALL: Seven nations gear up for intense battle in CECAFA U-18 Women’s championship

In addition to announcing the participating nations, CECAFA revealed that the draw for the tournament will be conducted this week.

The stage is set for an exhilarating display of talent and fierce competition as seven nations prepare to go head-to-head in the highly anticipated 2023 CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship. 

Hosted by Kenya, this tournament promises to be a thrilling showcase of young footballing prowess.

The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) has officially confirmed the participation of Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, and Zanzibar alongside the hosts. 

With such an impressive lineup, fans can expect an enthralling display of skill and determination from these rising stars.

Scheduled to take place from June 29th to July 11th in Nairobi, the championship is already generating considerable excitement among football enthusiasts. 

Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director, expressed his delight at the forthcoming event, highlighting the keen anticipation surrounding the tournament.

"We are happy that finally we shall have seven teams taking part in this season's opening tournament. We expect a very competitive event," said Gecheo, fueling the growing enthusiasm for the championship.

In addition to announcing the participating nations, Gecheo revealed that the draw for the tournament will be conducted this week. 

The participating teams  will be divided into two groups, with four teams in one group and three in the other. 

The draw will undoubtedly add another layer of intrigue and suspense as fans eagerly anticipate the matchups and rivalries that will emerge from the group stages.

Excitement surrounding CECAFA events doesn't end with the U-18 Women’s Championship as  the regional body has confirmed a host of other tournaments that will captivate football lovers across East and Central Africa. 

Ethiopia has been selected as the host country for the upcoming CECAFA U-23 Championship in July, while the Kagame CECAFA Club Championship is set to take place in August. 

Additionally, Uganda will be hosting the Zonal Women's Champions League qualifier, further enhancing the region's reputation as a hotbed of footballing talent and passion.

Football fans can also look forward to the CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship and the CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship, which are also scheduled to take place. 

These tournaments will provide a platform for young male athletes to showcase their skills and potentially pave the way for future stars of the sport.

As the countdown begins for the 2023 CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship, anticipation continues to build. With seven nations vying for glory, the stage is set for an electrifying display of youthful talent, determination, and team spirit.
