Shabana FC's midfielder Peter Ongechi, affectionately known as the "Maestro," has opened up about the team's triumphant journey to the FKF Premier League after securing promotion.

The former Posta Rangers talented playmaker has been instrumental in the Glamour Boys campaign in the 2022/2023 National Super League season, where he has scored important goals.

In a recent interview, Ongechi acknowledged the crucial role played by Coach Sammy Okoth in the team's success and expressed the collective desire to finish the season as the league champions.

"It has been a long journey, and we thank God for the achievements that we have made so far," said Ongechi, the man of the hour, in a recent interview as per Nengo Live.

When asked about his own success, Ongechi attributed it to his ability to read the game and maintain a strategic positioning on the field.

"What has led to my success so far is that I am able to read the game and positioning. That's why as a midfielder, I have been able to score goals," Ongechi explained.

Ongechi's exceptional performances have earned him the nickname "Maestro" among the Glamour Boys fans.

"Fans gave me the nickname, I guess due to my performance on the pitch," he humbly stated, acknowledging the recognition bestowed upon him by the supporters.

Currently, Ongechi sits in an impressive third position on the NSL scorer chart, having netted 14 goals with only two matches remaining in the season.

His latest feat came just last week when he scored a brace in a thrilling match against Darajani Gogo on Friday, June 23.

His consistent goal-scoring ability has undoubtedly contributed significantly to Shabana FC's success and the team's promotion to the prestigious FKF Premier League.

Shabana are currently preparing for their upcoming match against Murang'a Seal on Sunday away at the St Sebastien Park Stadium in Muranga.
