As a result, Sharks move to 11th spot on the league table, while Batoto ba Mungu remain 13th on the standings.
Kariobangi Sharks beat Sofapaka 2-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match at the Kasarani Annex on Friday afternoon.
The match's first chance went the way of Sofapaka in the ninth minute, with Roddy Manga intercepting a pass across Sharks' defence before sending a long-range shot wide of goalkeeper John Otieno's left-hand post.
Sharks soon showed their potency in attack, putting together a slick passing move in the final third that ended with a tame shot from Fortune Omoto which Kevin Omondi easily claimed.
In the 17th minute, Sofapaka were forced to make a change after David Nshirimimana could not carry on and was replaced by Ronack Otieno.
Batoto ba Mungu should have claimed the lead, with Sunday Ikekhai doing great work down the right flank to create a clear chance for Alex Imbusia, but the forward dragged his shot wide off the target.
Tyson Otieno then pulled a shot wide off the left post from range at the half-hour mark, and Sharif Musa managed to test Omondi with another long-range strike in the final action of the first half.
Sharks upped their tempo after the restart, and they broke the deadlock in the 48th-minute courtesy of Sigmun Maina, who netted his second goal of the season.
Titus Achesa had a chance to score an equalizer a couple of minutes before the hour mark, but after showing some nifty footwork to slide past Baron Oketch, the forward sent his shot high and wide.
Sharks extended their lead in the 75th minute when second-half substitute Moses Shikanda pounced on a rebound from Sofapaka goalkeeper Kevin Omondi who was trying to save a Tyson Omondi shot.
Sofapaka had a chance to pull one back in the 89th minute when Manga had space to get away a shot from the 18-yard area, but his shot hit the upright with John Otieno well beaten.
