The Chairman is full of optimism ahead of the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season.

AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda has revealed optimism that Ingwe fans will rally behind the team when the 2023/2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season starts later this month.

Last season, things ended on a sour note after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) banned their fans from attending four matches in April after chaos erupted in a match between the 12-time league champions and Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium.

Fans were infuriated at the decision, which made them protest against attending the rest of their matches for the season.

Quizzed about whether he is worried that the fans will extend their protests, Shikanda expressed optimism they will put it behind them.

“Our fans were given some direction by the federation because it was punishing us,” Shikanda said in an interview with Radio Jambo.

“That is a thing of the past. Going forward, I believe they are eager to see who we are bringing on board now that this FIFA issue is behind us.”

Shikanda believes that the lifting of the ban will get fans excited to see who the club is signing which will make them “compete for the league this season”.

“We will now be bringing in some more fresh legs to the Den and make sure that we compete for the league this season.”

Meanwhile, Shikanda is looking forward to seeing the impact fellow community clubs Gor Mahia and newly-promoted Shabana will have in attracting fans to watch their games, which he thinks could restore the league’s popularity amongst the local audience.

“I am really looking forward to seeing how Shabana will perform, how Gor Mahia will perform in the new season,”

“We are having our destiny in our own hands. We are actually trying to ensure that we chatter or steer the team in a better direction.”
