Akor Adams reacts to Super Eagles call-up and missing a disastrous international break, focusing on Sevilla while eyeing a future Nigeria spot amid striker competition.

Nigerian striker, Akor Adams, plying his trade in European giants Sevilla, recently opened up via a LaLiga Zoom call about his inclusion in Eric Chelle’s initial 39-man Super Eagles squad and his subsequent absence during the team’s calamitous international break.

The forward’s comments will spark debate about whether his injury was a blessing in disguise, sparing him from the fallout of Nigeria’s recent struggles on the global stage.

The striker, who has been sidelined by injury, missed out on the ill-fated international window that saw the Super Eagles falter, most notably in their disappointing draw against Zimbabwe in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

“It’s been coming for the past two, three years now, and to finally get a call, even though I was injured and just coming back, it means a lot,” Adams said.

“First, I am grateful to God because we have so many players in Nigeria, and to be a part of the coach’s 39-man list, it means I have done something right.”

Adams remained philosophical about the situation, expressing optimism about his future with the national team.

“By God’s grace, I am in the right place to take the next step,” he added.

The 25-year-old also acknowledged the depth of talent in Nigeria’s attacking ranks, saying;

“We have really good players, good strikers, but I think everyone has their place.”

Eric Chelle and his Super Eagles failed to get the Zimbabwe job done.

However, he quickly shifted focus to his club commitments with Sevilla, stating; “Right now, my focus is on Sevilla because we have a lot of objectives to catch up in the season, and the better I do for my club, I think the opportunity for the national team will come.”

While Nigeria’s national team licks its wounds and prepares for upcoming challenges, Adams’ comments have left room for interpretation: Was he snubbed at the last minute, or did fate intervene to protect his rising star?

For now, the striker seems content to let his performances at Sevilla do the talking, but his near-miss with the Super Eagles has only fueled the ongoing saga surrounding the team’s fortunes.
