Athletics star Usain Bolt took to his social media to confirm that he ruptured his Achilles during the Soccer Aid charity match.

Legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt's dreams of becoming a professional footballer have suffered a major blow after he ruptured his Achilles tendon during Sunday's Soccer Aid charity match with Nigerian legend John Obi Mikel and others.

The eight-time Olympic gold medalist and world record holder captained a World XI celebrity team against an England side featuring former internationals like Jermain Defoe and Theo Walcott at Stamford Bridge.

Bolt's cameo was cruelly cut short, however, when he went down holding his leg after appearing to sustain the Achilles injury.

Despite the setback, the 37-year-old took to social media to vow he would return from the latest obstacle in his path towards a surprise career swap to soccer.

"Raptured Achilles but done know we a warrior," Bolt defiantly stated, making clear this injury wouldn't dent his ambition of lining up for a professional club.

Bolt had been training with several clubs in recent years, including a stint with Australian side Central Coast Mariners in 2018, in his pursuit of an unlikely career in football following his track retirement.

While he failed to earn a professional contract during those trials, the Jamaican speedster had continued to harbour hopes of fulfilling his dream at the highest level one day.

This devastating Achilles rupture will likely require surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process that could realistically spell the end of those aspirations at Bolt's age.

However, if his famed determination and warrior spirit is anything to go by, you wouldn't put it past the greatest sprinter of all-time to find a way to defy the odds once more.

Despite Bolt's cruel personal setback, the Soccer Aid event still raised millions for UNICEF's vital humanitarian causes - providing at least one positive from an otherwise difficult day for the Jamaican icon according to a Sky Sports report.
