The Ex-Manchester United manager is reportedly close to joining a major club side

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly declined the opportunity to become Denmark’s national team coach.

Despite initial interest from the Danish Football Association, Solskjaer has decided to pursue discussions with a major club instead, as he looks to return to top-level club management.

Denmark’s dream of Solskjaer as coach fades

The Danish Football Association had high hopes of securing Solskjaer as the next head coach of the Danish national team, particularly after his experience with Manchester United and Molde.

Solskjaer, who guided United to a second-place finish in the Premier League and multiple deep runs in European competitions, was seen as an ideal candidate to lead Denmark through the next phase of their development after the exit of Kasper Hjulmand.

However, Tipsbladet has revealed that despite the DBU’s efforts, Solskjaer turned down the opportunity, opting not to engage in further discussions with Peter Møller, DBU's football director.

Solskjaer reportedly reveals talks with big team

The Norwegian, who has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in 2021, appears to be focusing on securing a head coach position at a big European club, which he is reportedly already in talks with.

Solskjaer enjoyed a distinguished playing career

Since his departure from Manchester United, Solskjaer has remained a sought-after coach, and according to sources, he is currently in discussions with a major club about taking over their managerial role.

This is likely why he decided to pass on the Danish national team job, as the allure of returning to club football with a major team seems to outweigh the opportunity to manage a national team.

With Denmark’s Nations League match against Spain looming, DBU is still in search of a permanent manager, with temporary coach Lars Knudsen continuing to lead the team.
