The German replaced Lampard at the Blues’ helm in January 2021 before he was sacked in September 2022.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has refused to be dragged into the debate surrounding Frank Lampard’s return to Chelsea.

Tuchel is in England with Bayern Munich for a Champions League match against Manchester City.

When he was asked about Chelsea rehiring Lampard, whom he had replaced at Stamford Bridge, the German said he would not make a comment.

‘No, no, no. No more Chelsea decisions. I’m wearing a different shirt, and I will not comment. Sorry," the German said.

Should Chelsea beat Real Madrid in the other quarter-final, and Bayern see off City, Tuchel could meet the Blues in the semi-final.

"‘No, it’s impossible," Tuchel responded when asked whether he wanted to beat Chelsea along the way and win the Champions League.

"I can just give my contract back if I’m not highly motivated for tomorrow. This is pure pleasure, pure joy, and a great gift to be part of a match like this, a quarter-final of the Champions League.

"And it’s an obligation to give my very, very best [in terms of] motivation, input, help, and devotion to my players. This is it. There is no more motivation needed."

The German tactician said although he enjoyed his time in England, that will not affect his determination to win against City.

"I can tell you I’m happy to be back [in England]. I enjoyed every single day of being in England, coaching in England, and watching the Premier League. Happy to be back and to be back in this atmosphere," he concluded.

"But when the whistle goes, there will not be so much enjoyment or sentimental thoughts, we will then compete until the last whistle."

A match against City, who have been to six successive Champions League quarter-finals, is not expected to be an easy outing for the Bavarians.
