The Premier Soccer League-winning coach had been linked with a move to Yanga after leaving his previous club.

Tanzania Mainland Premier League giants and champions Yanga SC will have to look elsewhere for a head coach after Pitso Mosimane landed a new job.

The South African has been appointed to head Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates. This will come as a shock to Yanga supporters, who had been thrilled by rumours that the experienced tactician was headed to Jangwani.

The reports that Mosimane could land at Yanga were intensified when Nasreddine Nabi parted ways with the Tanzanian heavyweights.

Mosimane had been clubless since he left Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia recently. He was appointed head coach of Al Ahli in September 2022 and helped the club return to the Saudi Pro League despite finding them in the seventh position in the Second Division.

He earned them promotion with four games remaining in the season.

"Al Wahda FC Company has signed with the South African Technical Director Pitso Mosimane to lead the first team as a head coach," Al Wahda said as they confirmed Mosimane’s appointment.

"The club’s board of directors welcomes Mr Mosimane to the home of champions, wishing him success in serving the club’s leadership, administration, and fans’ ambitions."

Al Wahda are four-time UAE Pro League champions, but their last title was achieved in 2009/10.

Yanga are expected to appoint a coach with winning credentials given the success they have registered in the past two seasons, and Mosimane would have fitted in well.

Timu ya Wananchi defended the Premier League and the Azam Federation Cup and advanced in the CAF Confederation Cup to the final, which was their first-ever appearance at the ultimate match.

Mosimane, on the other hand, won the Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016 and two more with Al Ahly of Egypt. In his last season with the Egyptian giants, he was defeated in the final by Wydad Casablanca.
