Jackson Mayanja’s post-match press conference after KCCA FC’s 1-0 loss to Vipers SC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League was one for the books.
The duration of the presser and the choice of words used were shocking.
The KCCA FC interim coach spent less than three minutes explaining his team’s performance to several sports journalists that had covered the game and had come to pick reactions from him after the game.
‘’Today, the best team lost. I want to look straight into the cameras without fear and say it, and I don’t care what happens,’’ a visibly brutal talking Mayanja noted.
‘’Ssali Mashoodi (centre referee) is a problem to this country, that I can say,” he added.’
Daily Monitor’s Elvis Senono was the first to comment on how Mayanja was addressing the presser.
To which Mayanja responded in the vernacular, Oyagala kumanyira? Translated as, “Do you want to disrespect me?”
Senono had no kind words for Mayanja, telling him off and his behaviour.
‘’Oyogede mu bubi coach” which is translated as ‘’What you’ve said is not right, coach.”
To which Mayanja responded that he is a professional coach who doesn’t tolerate disrespect.
“Nze ndi professional coach, sagaala kumanyira, which is translated as I am a professional coach, and I don’t tolerate disrespect.”
Kawowo Sports journalist Ismael Kiyonga then asked Mayanja to expound more on his point of poor officiation, but Mayanja kept asking if the sports journalists had watched the game.
“Did you watch the game? Where you in the stadium, I can’t say more. Let me wait for what they (FUFA authorities) will say.’’
Mayanja then responded to this writer’s question about what next after his team lost to Vipers. His response, not all is lost. ‘’Not all is lost; we shall fight until the end."
In all honesty referee Mashood had a good game when everyone thought he was going to struggle because of the timing and magnitude of the tie.
The win takes Vipers to second spot level with KCCA FC on 45 points, but Vipers have a superior goal difference.
KCCA FC next face Express FC on Saturday 13th May
