Both Bafana Bafana and the Eagles of Carthage had all to play for heading into the final game of the group stage in Group E.
South Africa needed a point after that impressive win against Namibia while Tunisia needed an outright win to progress.
Despite a dominant display that saw them create the best chances in the game, Tunisia struggled to find a way behind a well-drilled South Africa defence.
The Rainbow Nation defended stoutly, leaving no space for the Eagles to exploit as they held on for the much-needed draw that was enough to see them through while ending Tunisia’s chances.
South Africa qualified for the knockout stage after they finished second behind Mali, who also played a goalless affair with Namibia in the other group match.
