Morocco’s Lionesses defeated the Koreans 1-0 to register a historic first win at the FIFAWWC in their first-ever World Cup.

The Atlas Lionesses suffered the second-heaviest defeat by a debutant against a ruthless Germany but have now put behind them that painful defeat to Germany in their opening match to revive its FIFAWWC campaign.

Ibtissam inspires Morocco

Centre forward Ibtissam Jraidi will go down in the history books back in Morocco after her goal made a difference.

Ibtissam’s sixth-minute strike proved just enough for the Atlas Lionesses, who had to keep the Koreans at bay for over 84 minutes to make history in Australia.

In what is their first-ever appearance at the FIFAWWC, the Moroccans got off to a disappointing start when an Alexandra Popp-inspired Germany put six goals past them in their first game of the tournament.

Heading into the second game against the Koreans, the Lionesses knew they could not afford more slip-ups if they are to preserve and extend their world cup dreams.

What it means to the Moroccans.

They got off to the perfect start when star forward Ibtissam gave them a shock lead as early as in the sixth minute of the encounter.

It turned out to be the decisive winner as the Lionesses held off strong opposition from the Koreans, who are ranked 55 players above them to record the second shock of the FIFAWWC after Nigeria’s Super Falcons stunned co-hosts, Australia, 30 places above the Falcons on the ranking.
