The loss has cast a shadow over manager Gareth Southgate's future, despite reaching a second consecutive European Championship final, the lack of silverware has reignited questions about his leadership.

Shearer Predicts Southgate's exit

Legendary striker Alan Shearer believes this might end Southgate's reign. "I suspect he might say 'over to someone else," Shearer stated, hinting at a potential resignation.

He emphasized the pressure to win after reaching the final stage, "When you are here, you have got to get over the line," he said during BBC's live coverage.

Southgate's reflection and uncertainty

While Southgate dodged immediate confirmation, he admitted the need for introspection.

"I have to talk to the right people, It's hard to reflect so soon after a defeat like this." He acknowledged the team's progress but highlighted the ultimate goal, "England are in a good position... This squad will be around for the next World Cup. There is much to look forward to, but that is no consolation."

Dejection and Hope Mix

Southgate expressed his deep disappointment, "I am devastated for everyone... I am proud of the way they have fought, represented the shirt with pride, never beaten until five minutes of the last game."

He also pinpointed areas for improvement, "We didn't quite keep the ball well enough, they had more control."

Will Southgate stay and build on the team's experience, or will the FA seek a new manager to finally end their trophy drought?
