Barcelona legends on Lamine Yamal
Iniesta, the scorer of the most important goal in the history of the Spanish national team, has lavished praise on the teenage prodigy, who has been instrumental in La Roja's run to the final.
"At the moment, Lamine Yamal is just starting his career," Iniesta told LaLiga hub. "Obviously, I think the talent he is showing us and what we have seen this year from him is spectacular.”
Yamal's performances have been nothing short of sensational. In just five starts, the Barcelona wonderkid has scored one goal and provided three assists, helping Spain reach the final without losing a single match.
The teenager, who turned 17 on the eve of the final, has already etched his name in the history books, becoming the youngest goalscorer in European Championship history with his strike against France in the semi-finals.
Iniesta, who knows what it means to shine for Barcelona and Spain, understands the significance of Yamal's emergence on the biggest stage and hopes he can help Spain on Sunday.
For a 16-year-old, it's not normal because until now we'd not seen anything like it,” he continued. “I hope he can continue in the same vein and, above all, at this moment in time, he can help Spain to win this European Championship,” he added.
In a related development, ahead of the final, Yamal has revealed a touching birthday wish, according to a Pulse Sports report.
"I've told my mother that if we win, I don't want anything as a gift. I just want to celebrate it in Madrid with my classmates. And that's it."
With Spain's hopes of a fourth European title resting on the shoulders of this remarkable young talent, the glowing endorsement from Iniesta, who remains active at 40, will only add to the growing excitement and anticipation surrounding Lamine Yamal's potential to lead his country to glory.
