Sporting Lagos: Kalu opens Gateway to NNL playoffs with another winner for Tech Boys

Sporting Lagos are unbeaten in six matches with the superstar Kalu, who looks, plays, and wears number 25 like Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu, the main driver in the NNL.

Gabriel Kalu has emerged as one of the key players for Sporting Lagos as they look to agin promotion from the NNL to the NPFL next season.

Kalu was the hero again as Sporting Lagos defeated Gateway 1-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Sunday.

The forward kept his nerve to score a first-half penalty which proved to make the difference in the hard-fought win that ensured Sporting extended their unbeaten run to six matches.

Just a week before, the talented forward was the hero again as netted a stunning winner in a 2-1 win over Ijebu United also at the same venue.

Following his performance against Ijebu, he was rewarded for his impact with a starting berth against visitors Gateway by his manager, coach Paul.

The goal took his tally to two goals in as many matches as Sporting stay on course for the playoffs with back-to-back wins.

The Tech Boys seem to have found their groove at the right time as they kept hopes of making the playoff alive.

Kalu provided the inspiration this time from the spot to fire the Tech Boys to back-to-back wins at their home turf in Onikan.

With the win against Gateway, Sporting are now unbeaten in their last six matches, with three wins and three draws.

They sit at the top of their table on 15 points with Crown FC, who they face next in Ogbomosho, breathing down their neck.
