Gor Mahia received special congratulations from Sports CS Ababu Namwamba and CS Eliud Owalo after clinching their 21st league title.

Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has extended his hearty congratulations to Gor Mahia for their remarkable achievement in winning the 2023/4 FKF Premier League (FKFPL) title.

The victory marked K'Ogalo's 21st league title securing their place in the next CAF Champions League season.

Gor Mahia's latest triumph was sealed with a convincing 3-0 victory over Muhoroni Youth at the SportPesa Arena in Murang'a, propelling them to the top of the league with an unassailable 67 points.

Reflecting on Gor Mahia's success, CS Namwamba praised the team's consistent performance.

"Congratulations K'Ogalo for emphatically securing the 2023/4 Kenyan Premier League title. Your 21st KPL title cements your position as the undisputed Kings of Kenyan football," Namwamba expressed on Twitter.

The CS further acknowledged the team's past struggles with FIFA sanctions, which previously hindered their participation in international competitions, and shared his optimism for the future.

"Let's get ready in time. Gor Mahia has tasted continental victory before, and I believe they can conquer Africa again," he added.

Last season, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs intervened to assist not only Gor Mahia but other teams across various leagues under the Hongera Awards initiative.

Gor Mahia received significant financial support, including KSh 10 million to settle FIFA sanctions, enabling them to regain their standing in continental football.

Other teams, including Kakamega Homeboyz and Ulinzi Starlets, also benefited from this initiative.

The CS also highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to transform the Kenyan Premier League into a commercially viable entity.

"This season, we have provided KSh 240 million as a lift-off support package, ensuring that KPL games are broadcasted live and each team receives financial rewards based on their league standings. Our goal is to make sports a lucrative career for our athletes," Namwamba remarked.

Additionally, Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Digital Economy, who attended the match, echoed Namwamba’s sentiments.

Owalo praised Gor Mahia's consistent excellence in the league and expressed his commitment to supporting the team's preparations for the upcoming CAF Champions League.

"Winning the league has become a norm for Gor Mahia; it's time to aim higher and claim the continental title."
