Ssimbwa and colleague Abdallah Mubiru have been the centre of discussion on who the next appointment should be, but sources indicate that Ssimbwa seems to have won the race.
Sam Ssimbwa has emerged as the leading candidate and favourite to become KCCA FC’s new permanent head coach, with an initial agreement reportedly struck between the two.
The KCCA legend has been heavily linked to the MTN Omondi vacancy in recent weeks and is one of two leading contenders to become the permanent successor to Sergio Traguil.
Ssimbwa and colleague Abdallah Mubiru have been the centre of discussion on who the next appointment should be, but sources indicate that Ssimbwa seems to have won the race.
Pulse Sports Uganda indicated in June that the Kasasiro Boys considered naming Ssimbwa and board member Jackson Mayanja as co-coaches before that was thrown out of the window with the appointment of Traguil a month later.
The Portuguese’s time at Lugogo did not last though, as he was sacked four months into his two-year contract, leaving with a disgraced image as he failed to win any of his four league games in charge.
KCCA also prematurely exited the CAF Confederation Cup, getting dumped in the second preliminary round by Abu Salim of Libya, and were knocked out of the semi-finals of the Pilsner Super 8 by URA FC at Lugogo.

FOOTBALL Sergio Traguil: KCCA sack head coach after just four months
Thirteen-time Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC have confirmed partying ways with head coach Sergio Daniel Moniz Traguil, after just four months in the job.
Ssimbwa will be returning to take charge at Lugogo for the fourth time in his coaching career. His previous stint at the club though ended in absolute chaos.
Ssimbwa, who served as assistant to Mike Mutebi, was relieved of his duties in April 2016, after an audio circulated in the media with his voice stating that he ‘can bribe referees to win his club matches if he wanted to’.
Ssimbwa’s first appointment at KCCA was in 2002, and again in 2009. His last coaching appointment was at Kitara FC, who he helped guide to promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

KCCA return to action when they host rivals Vipers SC on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
