Jose Mourinho arrived at Fenerbahce to huge fanfare and he will get to work quickly as he aims to improve the squad.

The self-proclaimed Special One is back in management, this time with Turkish side, Fenerbahce.

Nigerians love Mourinho, for several reasons, and with several Super Eagles players at the top of their game, we look at 4 players the Portuguese tactician can take with him on his Turkish journey.

1. Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City)

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is out of contract at Leicester City this summer and will provide high-level quality and experience to almost any side in Europe.

Jose has a long-standing love for defensive midfielders and will appreciate Ndidi’s work-rate and commitment.

2. William Troost-Ekong (PAOK)

The Super Eagles vice-captain and AFCON 2023 Player of the Tournament would be an excellent addition to Mourinho’s defence at Fenerbache.

He showcased his leadership skills at January’s tournament in Cote d’Ivoire but also reminded everyone just how good he can be from the penalty spot scoring two penalties and one in the shootout against South Africa.

His contract at PAOK Thessaloniki runs till 2026, but the chance to work under Mourinho, and play in the UEFA Champions League would be a new high in Troost’s career.

3. Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United)

Stanley Nwabali caught the eye with his impressive displays for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Côte d’Ivoire. The shot-stopper was linked with a move to Saudi club Al-Ettifaq and Sky Bet Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers during the AFCON.

South African giants Kaizer Chiefs have also been credited with an interest in the goalkeeper. If Mourinho needs a top-class first-choice or even high-level back-up Nwabali could be the man.

4. Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City)

Iheanacho is another Leicester City man whose contract expires this summer. The 27-year-old has been reduced to a peripheral figure at the King Power stadium, and while there have been rumours of a potential renewal, nothing concrete yet.

A move to play under Mourinho in an intense league could bring back the spark in the former Manchester City man.
