Martin Keown believes Arsenal’s win over the Bees signified the club’s intent in the Premier League title race.
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown was pleased with the club’s comeback 3-1 Premier League success at Brentford on New Year's Day.
Brentford vs Arsenal
Mikel Arteta’s men fell behind after Bryan Mbeumo took advantage of David Raya leaving a gap at his near post, but the North London side responded through Gabriel Jesus on the half-hour mark.
Mikel Merino completed the turnaround five minutes after half time, before Gabriel Martinelli doubled Arsenal’s advantage three minutes later.
The win sees Arteta's men close the gap at the top of the Premier League to six points, albeit with Liverpool playing one game fewer than the Gunners.
Speaking on TNT Sports after Arsenal became the second team to beat Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium this season, the ex-centre-back was bullish.
“Arsenal picked up the intensity; that is a strong signal from the team,” said Keown. “They are alive and kicking, still alive in this title race. In the second half, they showed their class. It was really important for them to win tonight and get the job done.”
