Nzoia Sugar FC regains team bus for crucial FKF Premier League match against Bandari.

Nzoia Sugar FC has reignited hope among its fans as their iconic team bus rolls back into action.

The Western Kenya-based club is now gearing up for an arduous journey to Mombasa, where they will face Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Grounds, a staggering 897 kilometers from their home turf in Bungoma.

This significant development comes after a period of financial instability for the club.

In 2020, the team faced a daunting challenge when their bus was seized by auctioneers due to outstanding debts.

This incident was a reflection of the larger financial struggles faced by the Nzoia Sugar Company, the club's parent organization.

According to a report by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu, the company's liabilities massively outweighed its assets, rendering it technically insolvent.

The club expressed its heartfelt gratitude for the support it received, which played a pivotal role in this comeback.

"We would like to appreciate the Board led by Hon. Alfred Khang'ati and management led by CPA Ezron Kotut for their support by ensuring the club bus is back on the road and fully owned by the club," stated the club in an official statement.

This gesture of support is not just a boon for the team's logistics but also a morale booster for the players and fans alike.

The revival of Nzoia Sugar FC's fortunes can be traced back to a promise made by the then CS for Devolution, Eugene Wamalwa, during his visit in 2020.

The commitment was further solidified when the 52-seater bus was officially handed over to the team by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta.

President Kenyatta also extended a financial helping hand of Sh2 million to the team, aiding them during the difficult period brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

The hardships faced by Nzoia Sugar FC are not unique in Kenyan football.

The club joins the ranks of Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz, Sofapaka, Murang'a Seal, Bandari, and Tusker FC, all of whom have branded team buses.

Currently, Nzoia Sugar FC is navigating through rough waters in the league, sitting at the bottom of the table with 13 points from 16 matches, just a point away from safety.

The club’s struggles are not confined to off-pitch issues; they are also reportedly set to lose some players in the January transfer window.
