Nigeria's Super Eagles B face bitter rivals Ghana in a revenge mission led by veteran warhorse Pele.

Nigerian Coach Daniel Ogunmodede has announced an 18-man squad led by Rabiu Ali, aka Pele, for the Super Eagles B ahead of this Sunday's crucial African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying match against Ghana's Black Galaxies.

The match, slated for the Accra Sports Stadium, is an important encounter as Nigeria seeks redemption after failing to qualify for the championship in 2009 and 2023 due to previous defeats against Ghana.

The inclusion of 44-year-old Ali, affectionately known as "Pele," highlights the team's blend of experience and youth.

The first leg of this two-legged qualifier kicks off at 4 PM local time in Ghana (5 PM in Nigeria). The second leg will be held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on December 28.

Both teams have a rich history of rivalry, with Nigeria recently gaining the upper hand in various age-group competitions in a fixture popular referred to as ‘Jollof derby’.

Over the past ten months, Nigeria's U17 and U20 teams have secured victories against Ghana, including a notable 3-2 win in the WAFU B U17 Championship and a 3-1 triumph in the WAFU B U20 Championship.

The stakes are high as the winner of this aggregate matchup will earn a ticket to the CHAN tournament scheduled for February 1-28, 2025, across Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
