Super Eagles on-field captain  William Troost Ekong was clad in full Arabian regalia to celebrate Saudi Arabia’s national day.

The 31-year-old recently made a move to Al-Kholood in the Saudi Arabia Professional League for a reported €1.2 million fee from Greek side PAOK and is already making the most of his time in the Gulf.

Saudi Arabia National Day

The Saudi National Day is an annual public holiday that celebrates the renaming of the Kingdom of Nejd and Hejaz as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932 by King Abdulaziz ibn Saud’s Royal decree.

This national holiday has been celebrated by members of the Gulf nation since its inception, but more recently, the event gained mainstream attention following the PIF’s massive investment into football.

The emigration of top European stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N’golo Kante etc. to Saudi Arabia has seen such players joining in the annual celebration as they promote the country's football as well as its culture.

Troost Ekong joins in on the celebration

Ekong is settling to life in Saudi Arabia, with his team recently getting their first win of the season, following a 1-0 triumph over Odion Ighalo’s Al-Wehda thanks to a goal from former Real Betis and Barcelona winger Alex Collado.

Off the pitch, the Super Eagles star is assimilating with the country's culture, and via his social media, he celebrated the Saudi Arabia National Day.

He posed wearing a jalabiya and keffiyeh and posted it on his social media, with the caption “Happy Saudi National Day.”

Meanwhile, Super Eagles legend Odion Ighalo joined in the celebrations last year. He has not missed out on the festivities this year either, as he posted a picture of himself in Arabian wear while carrying a Saker Falcon, Saudi Arabia’s national bird.
