The Nigerian settled a frantic affair at Craven Cottage, helping Fulham derail Forest’s European ambitions with a superb header.

Fulham entered today’s clash with Nottingham Forest aiming to complete a league double over the high-flying Reds, having edged the reverse fixture 1-0 at the City Ground last September.

Meanwhile, Newcastle advanced to the FA Cup fifth round after a nervy penalty shootout win over third-tier Exeter City, following a dramatic 2-2 draw.

The Magpies were hoping to carry their impressive league form forward, fresh from a stunning 7-0 demolition of Brighton at St. James' Park a fortnight ago.

However, the hosts destroyed the Forest party, maintaining the trend of either of these teams picked up a win in the last 12 meetings against each other.

As It happened

The game began at a frantic pace, and Fulham struck first after 15 minutes, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Adama Traore.

The winger breezed past Neco Williams before delivering an inch-perfect cross for Emile Smith Rowe to nod home.

The Cottagers took control from that moment and could have extended their lead if not for some fine saves from Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels.

However, against the run of play, Nottingham Forest found an equaliser.

The in-form Chris Wood showcased his strength, outmuscling Nigeria’s Calvin Bassey and shrugging off Antonee Robinson before calmly slotting into the bottom left corner—his 18th league goal of the campaign.

The teams went into the break level, but it was Fulham who continued to dominate after the restart.

Their persistence paid off, and this time, it was Super Eagles defender Bassey who atoned for his earlier mistake.

The Nigerian rose highest to meet Raul Jimenez’s clever flick, powering a header into the right corner to seal a crucial win for the Cottagers.
