Victor Olatunji named his favourite Nigerian musician in an interview with Pulse Sports.

Football and music are two of the biggest exporters of Nigerian talent and culture globally. Oftentimes, there's confluence between both sectors that creates reverberating effects.

Hence, during Pulse Sports interviews with football stars, there's typically a music (Afrobeats) angle. That was the case when Tunde Young interviewed Sparta Praha’s Victor Olatunji and asked for his favourite Nigerian artist; he did not spare the details.

What Olatunji said

Asked who his favourite Nigerian music act was, the 25-year-old answered “Davido,” before going on to further express his love and admiration for the Afrobeats superstar.

“My favourite Nigerian musician is, err,  I love so much, it's Davido,” Olatunji said. “I listen; I listen to him. I listen to him always.”

However, for his pre-game playlist, the Sokoto-born striker keeps it Christian. He lulls himself to match readiness with the spirit-filled melodies of Bidemi Olaoba.

“But funny enough, the song I listen to before every game is from Bidemi Olaoba.”

Football and Afrobeats to the world

Nigerian footballers have been one of the biggest propagators of Afrobeats, and it will come as little to no surprise that Olatunji entertains the Sparta Praha dressing room with Davido’s tunes.

The same is true for the likes of Ola Aina, who said music was the language with which he transmits Nigerian culture to his teammates. Nigerian music was also heavily featured in Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga Meisterchale celebrations last season, influenced by Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella.
